George Mastin, psychotherapist and coach

It Starts With Us.

It's a cliché in therapy and coaching for a reason: the quality of our relationship is the foundation of the work. It is far more profound than any single theoretical concept I could offer you. Time and time again, the "Therapeutic Alliance" has been proven to be the defining variable in creating positive change.

My goal is to create a warm, accepting space where your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are met with empathy and without judgement. If we can gradually build a relationship based on honesty and trust, the direction of the process will naturally reveal itself.

Common Concerns

Anger & Frustration

Anger is often a protective response, masking deeper feelings of vulnerability, injustice, or unmet needs. When it becomes a default reaction, it can feel like a sudden loss of control that alienates you from others and leaves you feeling isolated or misunderstood.

Anxiety

A persistent, heightened state of autonomic arousal. It is the physiological experience of being constantly "on guard," where the mind is caught in a loop of catastrophe and the body feels permanently braced for a threat that never quite arrives.

Body Dysmorphia

An agonizing preoccupation with perceived flaws that others simply do not see. It is the exhausting process of constant mirror-checking or avoidance, driven by a deep-seated conviction that your physical self is fundamentally "wrong" or unacceptable.

Burnout & Stress

The total depletion of your emotional, mental, and physical reserves. It is the hollow feeling that occurs when your internal resources have been entirely overtaken by external demands, leaving you detached, cynical, and utterly unable to pour from an empty cup.

Career Dissatisfaction

Spending the majority of your waking hours in a role that feels misaligned or soul-destroying takes a heavy emotional toll. It is the weight of feeling stuck, unfulfilled, and quietly questioning whether you are wasting your potential on the wrong path.

Childhood Wounding

The enduring echo of early relational trauma or neglect. It is the way past injuries dictate present reactions, manifesting as a deep-seated "inner critic" or a feeling of being fundamentally unlovable, long after you have left the environment where those wounds began.

Coping with a Breakup

A profound disruption of your attachment system. It is the disorientation of losing a shared reality and a primary source of regulation, leaving you to navigate a landscape of sudden absence, fractured identity, and the heavy grief of what "should have been."

Depression

A heavy, pervasive numbing of the self. More than sadness, it is a state of psychomotor retardation and emotional withdrawal, where hope feels cognitively unavailable and the simplest of actions require an almost impossible amount of psychic energy.

Emotional Overwhelm

The feeling of your window of tolerance being shattered. It is the flood of affect that bypasses rational thought, leaving you drowning in intensity or, conversely, triggering a total dissociative shutdown as a means of survival.

Existential Dread

This is the heavy, often isolating confrontation with life's ultimate givens: our mortality, our freedom to choose, and our search for meaning in an uncertain world. It is the unsettling feeling of being completely unmoored, wondering what the purpose of it all truly is.

Feeling Stuck

A state of psychic paralysis. It is the frustrating experience of being cognitively aware of what you "should" do, yet being held back by unconscious resistances, conflicting drives, and a sense that your life has reached a complete impasse.

Grief & Loss

The painful process of reorganising your world around an irreversible absence. It is the raw, unpredictable tide of sorrow that arises when a person, role, or future you relied upon is gone, leaving you to navigate the void they left behind.

Imposter Syndrome

Despite your outward achievements, there is a persistent, quiet dread that you will soon be 'found out'. It is the exhausting experience of feeling like a fraud in your own life, constantly attributing your success to luck rather than your own competence.

Life Transitions

The precarious "liminal space" between what was and what is next. Whether it is parenthood, relocation, or retirement, these shifts can trigger a crisis of identity, making you feel unmoored and uncertain of who you are in this new context.

Loneliness & Isolation

The painful discrepancy between the connection you need and the connection you have. It is the chronic ache of being unseen, even when surrounded by people, and the terrifying thought that you are fundamentally separate from the rest of humanity.

Low Self-Esteem

A pervasive internalised narrative of inadequacy. It is the filter through which every interaction is processed, where success is dismissed as luck and every perceived failure is taken as definitive proof of your own inherent lack of worth.

Men's Issues

Societal expectations often demand that men remain stoic and self-reliant, leaving little room for emotional vulnerability. This silent pressure can manifest as profound isolation, unexplained frustration, or a sense of being disconnected from your own internal world.

Narcissistic Abuse Recovery

Surviving toxic or highly controlling relationships involves enduring a complex web of manipulation and gaslighting. It leaves you doubting your own reality, deeply questioning your self-worth, and struggling to trust your own instincts or the intentions of others.

Neurodivergence Support

Existing in a society built largely for neurotypical minds is inherently exhausting. The constant demand for masking, managing sensory overload, and navigating executive dysfunction can lead to profound burnout and a deep sense of feeling fundamentally out of step with those around you.

Overstimulation

A sensory and cognitive "bottleneck." For those with a sensitive nervous system, the modern world can feel like a constant assault of light, noise, and information, leading to irritability, executive dysfunction, and a desperate need to withdraw.

Overthinking

The compulsive loop of rumination. It is the mind's attempt to gain control through analysis, resulting in "paralysis by analysis" where the present moment is entirely lost to the endless simulation of past regrets or future fears.

Panic Attacks

A panic attack is an intense, terrifying surge of fear that hijacks your nervous system, often accompanied by a racing heart, breathlessness, or a feeling of impending doom. It can make your own body feel like an unpredictable and unsafe place.

People-Pleasing

An adaptive survival strategy born from the need for safety or belonging. It is the systematic suppression of your own needs, boundaries, and "No" in order to manage the emotions of others, eventually leading to a total loss of self.

Perfectionism

The relentless pursuit of flawlessness often comes at the cost of your own wellbeing. It is a rigid, unforgiving standard where any mistake feels like a personal failure, leaving you trapped in a cycle of striving, harsh self-criticism, and inevitable burnout.

Relationship Conflict

The repeated activation of insecure attachment patterns. It is the painful experience of "mis-attunement," where communication breaks down into defensive cycles of pursuit and withdrawal, leaving both parties feeling lonely within the relationship.

Social Anxiety

Navigating social spaces can feel like walking through a minefield of potential judgement and embarrassment. It is the draining experience of hyper-analysing your own behaviour and carrying the heavy assumption that others are evaluating you just as harshly.

Trauma & PTSD

The persistence of the past in the present. It is the way the nervous system remains "stuck" in a survival response, manifesting as flashbacks, hyper-vigilance, and a deep sense that the world—and even your own body—is no longer a safe place to be.

A Theoretical Grounding

I believe in the potential of our therapeutic relationship, but I use theory to inform it.

The Integrated Framework

While our relationship is the primary vehicle for change, I utilise many modalities to inform out work. My practice is rooted in Humanistic therapy, focusing on your inherent capacity for growth. However, I also like to borrow the best bits from other modalities too whenever it's appropriate.

The Process of Collaborative and Consent

Our work is a constant conversation: Is this working for you? Does this feel off? Should we try a different angle, or perhaps give this one a little more time? If we decide to use a specific framework or tool, it is always with your consent and feedback. I am not the expert in your expertise and rely on you to support me in understanding all the layers of your therapeutic experience.
